Wine Tasting Notes

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva Cava NV        Retail: $10.99

This cava is from a Spanish winery west of Barcelona, with roots in the 12^th century. This sparkling wine is elegant with a persistent mousse, the mass of bubbles that form at the top of the glass. The aromas are of white fruits, citrus, tropical fruits, and light floral notes. The palate is exquisite, complex, and full of flavor with good acidity and notes of lime and pineapple. It is dry with a lengthy finish.

Daou Chardonnay 2022      Retail $17.99

From the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, California,  Daou has been making wine since 1998. Owned by two Lebanese brothers who were forced out of their country by war, the winery was started when the brothers sold their software company. This wine displays a rich, ample nose of pineapple, vanilla, mango, hazelnut, and nutmeg spice.  Floral notes of honeysuckle and star jasmine are accented by sweet ginger and lemon zest. The palate is weighty and mouth filling, delivering round, silky flavors of Bartlett pear, Crenshaw melon, kiwi, and fresh pineapple. Notes of Golden Delicious apples and papaya are complemented with lemon cream pie and crushed almonds, with hints of white peach. Citrus peel and cinnamon linger on a long, graceful finish.

Patricia Green Cellars Reserve Pinot Noir 2021    Retail $29.99

Patty Green and Jim Anderson started the winery in 2000 and make more individual bottling of Pinot Noir that any other American winery – 36! Near Newberg in Willamette Valley, Oregon, this Pinot Noir is blended from the various vineyard sites which source the fruit. The wine’s aromas of blackberry, orange peel, and cacao nibs are rich and tangy all at once. Black cherry and tangerine flavors join together with bursts of white tea and clove, with crisp acidity and velvety tannins.

Pahlmeyer “Jayson” Red Wine 2021     Retail: $56.99

Jayson Pahlmeyer traded his lawyer career for winemaking in 1986 and ever since, Pahlmeyer has been a producer of premium wines in Napa Valley, California. The 2021 Jayson is a Bordeaux blend with 76% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and small percentages of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. This wine is rich and fleshy, with expressive aromas of crushed black cherry, mushroom, and leather leading to a ripe, focused palate of black cherry and black currant laced with mocha and toasty spice. The mid-palate is mouth filling and plush with caressing polished tannins that guide the interlaid flavors through a long, pure, persistent finish.

Sandeman Madeira Rainwater NV    Retail $19.79

From the Portuguese territorial island of Madeira, 320 miles off the coast of Morocco, comes this unique fortified wine. Rainwater is made in the traditional Madeira method, in which the wine is purposely oxidized through heating, which pushes the aging process and creates a wine that will age indefinitely. Properly stored bottles of premium Madeira can age more than 200 years! From the Tinta Negra grape, this wine is light in style and big in flavor. This evening’s wine is medium light amber color with golden highlights.  With clean nutty aromas it is medium dry in flavor with nutty components, and a good, clean finish.
